DIED -- In Mansfield, April 27th., WILLIE J. McMONIES, nephew of Mr. & Mrs. W.B. Niman, aged 12 years, 3 months and 7 days.

The funeral took place from the family residence, No. 40 North Main street, on Sunday, April 29th., at 3 P.M.

An additional announcement regarding the death of this young man appeared in THE HERALD dated May 10, 1883, as follows:

DIED -- At Mansfield, O., April 27th. of diphtheria, WILLIE J. McMONIES, only child of James McMonies of Lima, O., and nephew of Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Niman of No. 40 Mulberry Street.

And a more thorough obituary appeared below the death announcement ...

Once more has diphtheria done its sad work.  This time it has made three homes desolate.  It has taken the only grand-son, the only son, the only nephew, from fond and loving hearts.  Seven years ago his mother was drowned, while bathing, in the lake at Albert Lea, Minnesota, since which time, his home has been with his uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. Niman.  How sad a place their home is no one can tell but hose who have seen the only sweet childish face in their home taken from it, never to return.  Willie was a child of uncommon intellect, ingenuity and ambition.  Many and curious were the articles his slender fingers fashioned from the frailest fancy work to the large pieces of mechanism.  Scarcely a nook or corner of his home but is filled with some piece of his workmanship.  He baffled with the disease with all the fortitude of a man, but when he saw death approaching, said calmly "I am going to my mother.  I am not afraid to die.  You will all come soon.  Only a little while."
